James “Butch” Frederick Pope, 75, of Shepherdstown, WV passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at his residence.
Born December 25, 1937 in Halltown, WV, he was the son of the late Maurice Pope and Gaynelle Foster Pope.
He was a veteran of the US Marine Corp, serving during the Viet Nam era and was a member of the Presidential Honor Guard.
He was employed with the United States Postal Service.
Butch was former manager of Easy Loan Company in Moorefield, WV and a Harpers Ferry High School Alumnus. He was an avid woodworker and a master storyteller.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Pope, two children, Jamie Newman and Jade Olubayo, grandchildren, Quinn, Chloe, Mason and Lilly, son-in-law, Ayinde Olubayo, daughter-in-law, Jayme Longerbeam, two sisters, Anne Sanford and Nancy Lanning, brothers-in-law, A.K. Sanford, Bruce Lanning, Kevin Newman, Archie Newman, Tobias Newman, Daniel Seymour and Rob Willis, sisters-in-law, Joan Pope, Kathy Seymour, Earl Willis, Karen Newman, Leslie Newman and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, four beloved cats and many friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hank Pope, John Pope and Edwin Pope and one sister, Charlotte Moyers.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Bolivar International Pentecostal Church of Christ, 87 Old Taylor Lane, Harpers Ferry, WV. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, WV with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
