Frances Ashbaugh, 97, of Hostler Road on the Blue Ridge Mountain in Harpers Ferry, WV, died on Saturday, February 16, 2013, in the presence of her family and under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born on December 8, 1915, in the town of Wigan in Lancashire County, England, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Latham.
She was of the Catholic faith and attended St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town.
Mrs. Ashbaugh was a nurse during the blitz of World War II and at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She had nine children.
She is survived by three sons, Paul L. Ashbaugh and wife, Donna, Frederick L. Ashbaugh and wife, Judy, and Gerard A. Ashbaugh, all of Chestnut Hill Road, Harpers Ferry; three daughters, Margaret M. Massa and Mary H. Vinson, both of Tennessee, and Anne M. Breeden, of Hostler Road, Harpers Ferry; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Harry L. Ahsbaugh, and by three sons, John F., Robert E. and Joseph D. Ashbaugh, all of Harpers Ferry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town with the Very Reverend John Ledford as Celebrant, assisted by Deacon David Galvin. Interment will be in St. Peters Cemetery in Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends Tuesday on from 7 to 9 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m., at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/Charles Town.
