Alexander Peshkov Wallington, 18, of Fredericksburg, VA passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2009, as a result of critical injuries received in a collision of motor vehicles in Spotsylvania County, VA on June 21, 2009.
He was born September 4, 1990 as Alexander Valerievich Peshkov in the Village of Andreykovo, Vyazemsky District, Smolensk Region, Russia. Alexander lived in the Vyazemsky District with his mother, Margarita Valerievna Peshkova, his younger brother Anatoly (Toly) and his maternal grandparents until the Russian economic collapse of 1998 led to the break-up of his family.
Alexander and his brother Toly were made wards of the Smolensk Region Ministry of Education in 1998 and resided in the Garagin Special/Correctional Boarding School at the City of Gargarin where Alexander was regarded as an enthusiastic student and excelled academically. He became competent in the English language while attending the Garagin School and in 2000 traveled to the United States for six weeks with his brother, other students and Ministry of Education officials and returned to Russia.
In January of 2001, Alexander and his brother Toly were adopted into the family of James and Mary Wallington of Virginia and became a US citizen. Alexander attended private and public schools for secondary education in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Alexander was an accomplished youth league baseball player and soccer player. Alex had many friends in Loudoun County, VA and other parts of the Washington, DC metro area. He was a practicing Roman Catholic.
In 2009 while residing independently in Fredericksburg, VA, Alex was awarded a high school General Educational Development certificate by the Virginia Department of Education after study and examination. At the time of his death, Alex was preparing application to attend college and in the fall to pursue a course of study in history and languages. Alex was employed as a laborer at a landscaping firm in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
Alexander is survived by his brother Toly Wallington, his parents James and Mary Wallington, his sisters Olga Wallington and Galina Wallington and his brother Nicholas Wallington, all of Lovettsville, VA; his sister Nadia Wallington of Walkersville, MD; his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Aleacha Wallington of Barboursville, WV and his grandmother, Kathryn Wallington of Glen Dale, WV and many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, godparents and friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, WV on Saturday, July 4, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. Fr. Vincent Bork as the Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, WV.
The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the services.
