Arthur Dietrich
Kriemelmeyer, Jr.
July 31, 1937 – June 27, 2022
Arthur (Art) Dietrich Kriemelmeyer, Jr., of Harpers Ferry passed away June 27 at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, WV. He was 84 years old.
Born July 31, 1937 in Washington, DC, he was the eldest son of the late Arthur "Otts" Kriemelmeyer and Eleanor (Boehs) Kriemelmeyer. Known as Ottsie to family and older friends, he was proud to have grown up in the nation's capital and loved sharing stories of his youthful adventures in the city. He graduated Calvin Coolidge High School in 1955, enlisted in the US Navy and spent his 18th birthday reporting for duty at the Naval Station Great Lakes. He served with the Atlantic Fleet on the USS Northampton and was recognized as an Expert Marksman.
After his service, Art returned to DC and worked in the construction industry, eventually forming Potomac Shenandoah Associates. He married Barbara MacDonald of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, CA on July 15, 1967. They later moved to Shannondale, WV where they raised three children. He was very active in the community architectural committee, the Safety Patrol, and the Shannondale Club. Art was well known for his enjoyment of shooting sports and his love of Labrador retrievers. He also enjoyed model trains, weather instruments and for many years was a weather spotter for NBC News in Washington, DC. He always got a kick out of Bob Ryan mentioning his name during the weather segment.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Kriemelmeyer, and his wife of 43 years Barbara (MacDonald) Kriemelmeyer. He is survived by his daughter Angela Moore (Andy) of Cumming, GA, sons Allan (Christine) of Wilton, CT, and Andrew of Lititz, PA, two grandchildren Danielle and Matthew Kriemelmeyer, sister- in-law Joan Cluett (David), nephew Sean Cluett and niece Carrie Cluett of Dartmouth, NS, CA, and two brothers-in-law Lee MacDonald and Allan MacDonald.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the friends and thoughtful caregivers who helped Arthur remain at his home and lead an independent life in his later years.
Family and friends will be received at a memorial service at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home on July 30, 2022 from 11-1. Interment will be private at Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar, WV. In lieu of flowers or other sentiments, the family welcomes donations to the Jefferson County Council on Aging (JCCOA), Meals on Wheels of Jefferson County or Hospice of the Panhandle.
