Obituary

Dr. Barbara Allyn Cooper "Grammy" Fry, passed away on July 5, 2022 at the age of 87.

She was born 12/25/34 in Loudoun Co., Virginia, to Laura Mildred Longerbeam and John Howard Cooper. She had one brother, Johnny and two stepbrothers, Carl and Lynwood.

Barbara graduated from Lincoln High School then attended James Madison University, graduating early in 1957. That same year Barbara accepted her first job as an elementary school teacher at Waterford Elementary where she met her soon to be husband, Roy Alexander Fry. Together they created a family of 5 children who they raised in Fairfax, Virginia. Roy passed away in 1969, after 12 years of marriage.

While working as a teacher and then a Principal in Fairfax County, Barbara earned a Doctorate in Education from George Washington University. Upon retirement, Barbara moved to her small farm home in Charles Town, West Virginia. Her pastimes included quilting, rug hooking, gardening and spending time with family. She presided over several stitching groups locally and loved attending retreats with friends and family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, her husband and her granddaughter, Angela.

She is survived by her children, Laura (Brian) Fry Bohall, Peg Fry, Richard Fry, Roy (Janet) Fry and Susanna Fry. Grammy has 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and numerous other loving family members.

Viewing to be held on July 12, 2022 12-2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV followed by a 3 p.m. service at St James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV.  A reception will be held at the church after the service. Burial will be in Fairfax, VA at Fairfax Memorial Park on July 13, 2022 at 10a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV.
