Obituary

Caleb Jay Smith, age 23, of Charles Town, WV, passed away on October 29th, 2025.

Caleb was born on October 11, 2002, in New Haven, Connecticut, to parents Jennifer Glymph and Michael Smith. He attended South Jefferson Elementary School, Charles Town Middle School, and graduated from Washington High School in 2021. Caleb attended college at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, majoring in Professional Writing and Editing, with a Minor in Pure Mathematics. Caleb was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Mu Mu chapter, where he served on the finance committee and helped organize community-based philanthropy events, including fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House and the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. He had a special connection with his fraternity brothers, especially Eddie Mutchler and Jeff Yingling. Caleb was interested in coursework that also included psychology, American history, and the sciences. In his youth, Caleb enjoyed playing soccer on the local AYSO teams, the Elite, and Tri-County travel soccer programs. He also wrestled with the JJWA youth wrestling organization, Charles Town Middle School, EP Rattlers, and Washington High School wrestling teams, and trained at Scanlan Wrestling Academy. For a few years while in college, Caleb wrote and edited articles for the non-profit organization SnoQap, out of Philadelphia, PA. One of his favorite work experiences was interning as a Laboratory Technician at the United States Army Institute of Infectious Diseases, Fort Detrick, MD. His most recent work included caring for dogs at Ridgeside K-9 in Winchester.  Caleb enjoyed spending time with his longtime girlfriend, Maddie. He enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors, and traveling. He loved the music of Tyler Childers, and some of his favorite movies were Good Will Hunting, Hot Summer Nights, and Tombstone. He also shared a love of the novel, and movie The Notebook with Maddie.
