Carole Jean
Azar
April 25, 1944 – February 25, 2022
Carole Jean Azar (nee Stetter), 77, of Martinsburg, WV entered into eternal rest at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, February 25, 2022.
Carole---with an 'e'-- was born in Akron, Ohio on April 25, 1944. She worked as a legal secretary for many years; a job she truly enjoyed. She began her working career in Akron where she met her husband of 55 years, Ernie, on a chance business call. A blind date led to an engagement 3 weeks later; the first of many adventures they would go on together. As she approached retirement, she decided to chase her childhood dream of living in Northern California. At the age of 52, she convinced Ernie to move across the country, taking a new job in San Francisco. There she made many new friends and developed a love of wine and pugs. They continued these adventures after retirement, moving from California back to Ohio, to Florida, and finally settling in West Virginia.
Carole loved her kids and grandkids, friends, cooking, yarn, and her pugs, but not always in that order. She spent many hours knitting prayer shawls for anyone that was facing a difficult diagnosis or situation. Her faith was an important part of her life, which she lived out in her generous spirit of giving and caring for others. One of Carole's closest friends was Rosie Depue from Ohio, with whom she remained in contact through all her adventures. She treasured that friendship, and the love and support it provided, until the end.
As she traveled the country she would collect crosses along the way. Little did we know her biggest cross would be the one she carried the last months of her life. With her faith, family, and friends, she made the most of her time still knitting and passing along her creative spirit to her children and grandchildren. She shared her love and adventure in cooking with them, never meeting a spice, ingredient, or cuisine she wouldn't try. She researched recipes and knitting patterns as if it were an Olympic Sport, and she enjoyed sharing her finds just as much.
Carole was a loving and faithful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Ernie, and Morrie the pug (who began her love of pugs). She is survived by her son Erik Azar of St. Augustine, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shauna Azar of Kearneysville, WV; and daughter and son-in-law Julie and Michael Jones of Kettering, OH; grandchildren John-Michael, Mikayla, Logan, Cassandra, Keegan, Jude, Isaac, and Blaise Azar, as well as Patrick and Kyra Pablo; Joey and Rocky, her faithful pugs; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 7, 2022, 11 am, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Dr., Charles Town, WV.
