Obituary

Carolyn Kay ("CK") Gund, 81, of Harpers Ferry, WV, passed away October 21, 2022, at home.

She was born on November 11, 1940, in Leipsic, IN, to Roscoe Roosevelt and Elizabeth May (Rutherford) Foutch.

CK did her undergraduate work at Indiana Central College, now known as University of Indianapolis and received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Kansas, completing her post-doctorate work at the National Institute of Mental Health. After a successful twelve-year career at the Food and Drug Administration, she then left to work in the private sector, continuing her work as a regulatory consultant at Covance, and partnering with Paul Hile and Clyde Takeguchi to start their own consulting company, Phoenix Regulatory Associates, Ltd., and was its president before closing. After her retirement, she was a long-time member of the Food and Drug Administration Alumni Association, serving as secretary for several years.

CK loved her cats, her books, and her wine. She was a strong, bold, intelligent woman with a great sense of humor and the biggest heart ever who loved nothing more than sharing good food and conversation with friends and family. CK was a professional who excelled in her field, but it was her love, friendship and caring that made her truly exceptional. She was always quick to help people in need. She was a force of nature and lived life full speed until Pulmonary Fibrosis slowed her down but did not take away her vitality, generosity and sense of fun. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, mother, mentor and friend to many and will be missed.

A private family memorial will be held at a future date as well as celebrations of life in Indiana and the DC area. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to your local animal support charities or St. Jude Children's Hospital in her memory.
