Charles William
Jackson
April 27, 1943 – February 24, 2026
Charles William Jackson was born April 27, 1943, to Charles Junior Jackson and Elva Frances Rickard in Charles Town, WV.
Charles graduated from Charles Town High School, where he served on the student council and shone as a fullback on the football team—earning the nickname "Choo-Choo Charley" from teammates. He remained most proud of the Purple Panthers' undefeated 1959 season, often recounting those gridiron days with a gleam in his eye. As an all-American fullback, Charles was invited by a talent scout, Bo Sherman, to visit the University of Houston to explore its program. Charles' athletic abilities also include time playing baseball, softball, and running track.
On October 20, 1963, Billy married the love of his life, Wanda Elizabeth Wilt. Together they built a life filled with devotion and shared joys until her passing in 2001.
A skilled carpenter by trade, Billy worked for Fairfax County, Brown & Jackson Builders, Richmond American, and Ronald Su Company before retiring. His hands crafted homes and structures that still stand as testaments to his dedication and craftsmanship.
Billy also devoted time to coaching youth baseball in Little League. He began with the Millville Giants and later coached the Braves. In 1981, he guided the Potomac Little League All-Star team to a West Virginia state championship — a highlight of his coaching career.
In his free time, Billy cherished simple pleasures: Sunday dinners with family, scenic drives in his truck along the Shenandoah River, hunting, and fishing. His jovial spirit lit up any room—he was always ready with a joke, a hearty laugh, and genuine warmth that made everyone feel welcome.
Billy is survived by his son, Mitchell Jackson; daughters, Tricia Jackson and Denise Nick; grandchildren, Trista Painter, Dylan Nick, Kayla Nick, and Lindsey Jackson; great-grandchildren, Charlee Smoot, Liam Smoot, Belle Nick, and Crue Croson; brother, Robert T. Jackson; sister, Diana M. Cook; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda; parents, Elva and Junior; brothers, Ronald Jackson and James Jackson; and grandparents, Charles and Esta Rickard, and Bessie and Charles G. Jackson.
Billy's legacy lives on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
