Dale McKinley Shelton, Sr., 74, of Harpers Ferry, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born on December 20, 1934, in Johnsontown, WV, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Shelton, Jr. and Anna Lewis Shelton.
He was a member and Chairman of the Deacon Board at St. John's Baptist Church in Shepherdstown.
He was a retired millwright with EastAlco in Buckeystown, MD. He also was currently employed with Pan Tram at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Air Force.
He is survived by two sons, Dale M. Shelton, Jr. and wife, Tawnya of Harpers Ferry, and William Hopewell of Colonial Beach, VA; two granddaughters, Olivia and Jackie Shelton, both of Martinsburg; devoted companion, Elizabeth Wright of Harpers Ferry; two sisters, Rev. Carole Shelton of White Plains, MD, and Gaye Jackson of Waldorf, MD; and three brothers, Harry Shelton of Dandridge, TN, Wayne Shelton of Martinsburg and Thomas Shelton of Harpers Ferry.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Hopewell Shelton; two daughters, Zina Lee and Yvette Shelton; and one sister, A. Hope Shelton Acie.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, US 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, with the Rev. Christopher Riley officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at Harpers Ferry.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7-9 pm.
