David Lee Gapen, 82, of Charles Town, WV passed away August 6, 2026 at his residence.

Born April 17, 1944 in California, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Marie Gapen.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town, WV.

David was a US Air Force veteran having served at Andrews Air Force Base and the Reserves.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed basketball, fast cars, and was a devoted Redskins and Commanders fan. He had a love of life and was always optimistic and ready with a “Dad Joke”.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patsy, at home, one daughter, Kristy L. Gapen – Hoke and husband, Henry, one stepson, Robert Poland and wife, Marisa, one granddaughter, Lauren M. Hoke and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Mobley.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
