David Ellis
Hammond
November 20, 1955 – November 23, 2025
David Ellis "Hoss", 70, of Kearneysville, WV, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at home.
Hammond was born on November 20th of 1955 to Charles Forrest Hammond Jr. and Mildred Alice Butler Hammond.
He lived his entire life on Southwood Springs Farm in Kearneysville. The family lived in the large stone house on the farm when he was young and he eventually moved to his own lot on the farm at the end of "No Mans Lane". He attended school in Shepherdstown and Jefferson High. David enjoyed boy scouts, 4-H, and football in his youth. His early career involved working at the family dairy farm. Eventually, he took those trade skills off the farm and worked building custom motorcycles before working for Lowe Products in Shepherdstown, Tamko in Frederick, and most recently for Ecolab in Martinsburg.
He loved racing motocross and accumulated a variety of wins on local tracks in his youth. His love of motorcycles was a constant in his life. He could be found over the years with a project bike or modifying his own Harley Davidson. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. For many years he participated in French and Indian war reenacting, as well as trail riding on his horse "Indian" around the farm.
David was always supporting others and willing to help. He often had a way with impacting those around him for the better just by sitting with them and listening. He was good at fixing things, whether they were people related or mechanical. He was a sociable guy and just generally memorable and easy to talk to, never meeting a stranger.
David was introduced to his future wife Angela Joy Shields by her family while working at Tamko. David and Angela wed in April of 1984. They were best friends who enjoyed spending time with each other traveling, or just cruising around on a motorcycle.
David was preceded in death by his father, Forrest, and his beloved nephew, Benjamin Riley Cooper.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Angela; his daughter, Meghan Renee Jenkins and husband Jonathan; his grandson, Nathan Ellis Jenkins and granddaughter, Josephine "Josie" Allona Jenkins; his sisters, Judy Sutton Hammond, Robbie Jo Hammond, and Diana Lynn Hammond (Bryan Roesch); and his mother, Mildred.
David worked hard his entire life and worked even harder for more time with his family in his battle with cancer. The family would like to express their gratitude to those in healthcare that helped David along in his battle with cancer. They are especially thankful for those dedicated nurses like Lisa.
He was always devastated that children were undergoing treatments like his.
Services were private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David's memory to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
