David Michael Smallwood, 72, of Charles Town, WV passed away suddenly on February 19, 2025 at Hopemont Hospital.

Born September 5, 1952 in Ranson, WV, he was the eldest son of Walter Francis Smallwood, Jr. and  the late Louise Virginia Greenwalt Smallwood.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV.

David attended Charles Town High School. He worked for Supertane Gas Company for 20 years and worked various jobs as a truck driver and plumber, until he became disabled. He enjoyed playing softball, woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and caring for his parents and grandparents.

He is survived by his father, Walter Francis Smallwood, Jr., four sons, Michael Smallwood and wife, Melissa, Jeffrey Smallwood, John Virts, and Joshua Virts and wife, Sarah, two sisters, Phyllis Dillow and  husband, Donald and Jackie Gore and husband, Michael, one brother, Walter "Peanie" Smallwood, III and wife, Nancy,  many grandchildren, great grandchildren, former wife, Irene Powell and former love, Ronda Virts.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Virginia (Greenwalt) Smallwood, son, Joey Smallwood, former wife, Judy Penwell and half-sister, Judy Saylor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV on Wednesday, February 26, 2025  with Father Shinu Luko as the Celebrant, assisted by Deacon David Galvin. Interment will follow at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, WV.

The family will receive friends at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV on Tuesday, February 25, 2025  from 6-8 pm with a Vigil and Rosary at 7:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church.
