Donald Brent Hetzel, 81, of Charles Town, WV passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Jefferson Medical Center in Charles Town, WV.

Born May 8, 1943, he was the son of the late Lowell Hetzel and Ray Miller Hetzel.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town, WV.

Don was a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School, Class of 1961 and WVU, Class of 1966, followed by his Masters in 1968. He was Baseball Captain at WVU as a Senior. He taught and coached at Miami Dade Junior College, Davis and Elkins College, then finishing his lengthy career in Jefferson County Schools as Athletic Director at Jefferson High School with 26 years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 53 years, Sherry, at home, two sons, Brent Hetzel and wife, Shelley of Summit Point, WV and Dylan Hetzel of Charles Town, four grandchildren, Drew, Dorian, Dash and Dayton, one great grandson, Dune, one brother, Glen "Denny" Hetzel and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Dave Hetzel.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North Street, Charles Town, WV with Pastor Duane Jensen officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or Community Ministries.
