Doretha Mae Hanes, 89, of Knoxville, MD passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her residence.
Born September 8, 1933 in Yarrowsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Phillip Coulter and Elsie Mae Deener Coulter.
Doretha had been employed by Peoples Drug Store, American Optical and Ewing Oil Company in Frederick, MD
She was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, where she served on the Church Board, was Treasurer and served on the Christmas Bazaar Committee.
Doretha was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 79 in Frederick, MD; the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 10 in Boonsboro, MD and volunteered at the Pleasant Valley School.
Doretha loved to travel, spending winters in Florida. Her traveling adventures began when she traveled with her husband during his basic training in the Army. She loved family holiday meals and especially the family Easter pictures on the steps.
She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Glenn "Wink" Hanes, at home; three daughters, Deborah Witmer and David; Pam Lescalleet and Larry and Pixie Harsh and Tim; one son, Glenn W. Hanes, Jr. and Becky; 8 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Susie Marcella McLucas and Mary Horman and Jerry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Gemberling, one brother, Leroy Coulter and two grandchildren, Bud and Payton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 3, 2022 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD with Pastor Calvin Park officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church two hours prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD 21758 or Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Harsh, Heath Burker, Jackson Burker, Justin Cunningham, Jim Scofield and Devin Scofield.
