Doris Ruffner Whiting, 99, of Charles Town, WV, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown, WV. She was born on March 25, 1926, in Luray, VA. to Jacob Daniel and Frances Baldwin Ruffner.

Doris married Edgar Mason Whiting, Jr. on January 19, 1957, in Winchester, VA. Doris and Edgar moved to Charles Town in 1958 and owned Jefferson County Motors, a Ford/Mercury dealership until 1977. Afterwards, Doris held the positions of the Clerk of the Magistrate Court and then the Clerk of the Circuit Court until her retirement in 1994. Doris was a member of the Old Opera House Guild and the Jefferson County Garden Club. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Jefferson County for over fifteen years.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar (1996), her brother Nelson Ruffner and three sisters: Jane Lucas, Sue Housden, and Polly Hershberger. She is survived by her three children: Edgar Mason Whiting, III (Kathleen) of Stevensville, MT, Ellen Whiting Teichman of Media, PA, and Catherine Whiting Athey (George) of Charles Town, WV; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on March 14, 2026, at 11:00 A.M., at Zion Episcopal Church, 301 E Congress St, Charles Town, WV 25414.
