Elliot Scoville Krafsur, 83, of Shepherdstown, West Virginia passed away June 18th, 2022 at home.

Born May 15, 1939 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Samuel S. Krafsur and Dixie S. Krafsur.

In 1964, he joined the Navy to see the world and was first stationed at Fort Detrick, Maryland. Later duty stations included Naval Medical Research Unit 3, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He was awarded a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of London in 1972. He was Professor Emeritus of Entomology and Genetics at Iowa State University. Never truly retiring, his research and writing continued until his death. He enjoyed the natural world, reading history, gardening, music, and his cats.

He is survived by his wife, son, two grandchildren, and two brothers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister.

Elliot Krafsur will be greatly missed.
