Ernest Joseph
Azar
December 31, 1937 – December 15, 2021
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace, Amen.
Ernie Azar, born December 31, 1937 in Akron, Ohio, entered into eternal rest at his home in Martinsburg, West Virginia on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Ernie worked as an accountant at Alside for 30 years, while also maintaining Azar Tax Service. After retirement from Alside, he and his wife, Carole, began an adventure. They moved to California to explore the west, back to Ohio to be closer to family, then to Florida for another adventure to check off the list, finally settling in West Virginia in 2020. He was an avid bowler, enjoying his Wednesday night bowling league for many years—insisting no other events could occur on a Wednesday night (including the birth of his children). Keeping his humor to the end, trying to lighten our moods, he joked the day before he passed. Waiting for his final joke, we realized that he held on until Wednesday - his day. He also enjoyed gardening, working on games and puzzles with his grandchildren, who said he was the "best grandpa ever". He also enjoyed driving and taking trips.
Ernie was a loyal and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Carole; his sister and brother-in-law, Juliann and Donald Wills of Hartville, OH; his son Erik Azar of St. Augustine, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shauna Azar of Kearneysville, WV; and his favorite daughter and son-in-law Julie and Michael Jones of Kettering, OH; grandchildren John-Michael, Mikayla, Logan, Cassandra, Keegan, Jude, Isaac, and Blaise Azar, as well as Patrick and Kyra Pablo; Joey and Rocky, his faithful pugs; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 20, 2021, 11 a.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Dr., Charles Town, WV. Entombment at Hillside Memorial Park in Akron, OH at a later date. Bye for now, Ernie. We love you!
