Obituary

An angel came and called Evelyn DeHaven James and took her by the hand on Monday, September 18, 2023.

Evelyn was born May 29, 1924 in Berkeley Springs, WV. She was 99 and formerly of Harpers Ferry, WV. She was the daughter of the late Franklin and Della Grace DeHaven, and was the wife of the late Franklin "Woody" James who died in 1997.

She was a member of the Solid Rock Fellowship Church, where she sang in the choir.

Evelyn loved all events that enabled her to spend time with her family and friends. She loved preparing meals for her family. She was a caregiver to many. Her hobbies were gardening, canning and baking.

She is survived by her five children, Franklin James and wife, Charlotte, Patsy Morgan-Runkles and husband, Richard, Nancy McKenzie and husband, David, Sr., Carolyn McKenzie and Terry James, Sr. and wife, Sue. She is also known as Grandma and Grandmom to her six grandchildren, Randy Morgan and wife, Mara, David McKenzie, Jr. and wife, Christie, Terry Lee James, Jr. and wife, Tina and Stephen McKenzie and wife, Kirsten, Stacy Prezzi and husband, Ryan, and  Karen See; great-grandchildren, Camden, Eli, Joel, Trenton, Elijah, Silas and Kaleb, Julia, Abigail, Rachel, Annelise, Jocelyn and Eleanor; and  great-great grandchildren, Evelyn and Amyria.

She was preceded in death by her late husband of 55 years, Franklin "Woody" James and son-in-law, Wayne McKenzie.

She was the last surviving member of her family.

A funeral service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV Pastor Van Marsceau officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar, WV.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
