Obituary

Floyd Ray Jamison, age 91, of Charles Town, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2026, at Berkeley Medical Center.

He was born on September 25, 1934, in Bakerton, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Daisy Helen and Albert Sylvester Jamison.

Ray graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1955 where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track. After graduation, Ray went to work for Martin Marietta/Capitol Cement Corp. in Martinsburg, West Virginia. After thirty-four and one-half years, he retired.

Ray is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Grimm Jamison, for 28 years; his two daughters, Debbie Henshaw, and Susie (Glenn) Moreland; five grandchildren, Megan (Ricky) Dixon, Matthew Henshaw, Madison Henshaw, Brittany (Ian) Steelman, and Brett (Olivia) Moreland and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Delores Manuel; one stepson, Christopher Petrucci; and one stepgrandson, Jaden Petrucci; and many other nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret “Sugie” Jamison, who passed away on April 10, 1994, with cancer; four sisters, Louise Talley, Lillian Lloyd, Dorothy Miller, and Reba Furr; five Jamison brothers, Albert Leo, Donald William, Granville “Chick” Sylvester, Gerald Eugene and Harold Wayne.

Ray was a member of the National Honor Society at HFHS. He was a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons and Chairman of the Property Committee. He also served in the U.S. Army and on the 4-H Foundation Committee for a number of years. Ray spent many years volunteering at the Jefferson Memorial Park where he served on the park board as both member and chair. He volunteered for many years mowing and handling repairs and improvements in the park he dearly loved.

On top of his other acts of service to the community, was his love of the game of baseball. Ray played baseball nearly all of his life for teams in the area including the American Legion-Post 71 in Charles Town, and the many fine teams in Bakerton, where he played with many of the Jamison

brothers. He managed the Bakerton Little League Senators, and was later manager of the Bakerton Big Team. During his baseball career, he was invited to spring training with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Brunswick, Georgia.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 A.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with Reverend John Bethard and Dr. Henry Christie officiating. The interment will follow at Edge Hill Cemetery, 604 Hunter Street, Charles Town, WV.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
