Franklin Gene
Runion
November 3, 1965 – December 17, 2025
Franklin Gene Runion, known to most simply by Jaybird, went to be with Jesus on December 17, 2025 leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly. He was born November 3, 1965 in Harrisonburg, Virginia where the family resided until their move to West Virginia in 1976.
Jaybird was known for his quick wit, unforgettable personality, and the laughter he brought wherever he went. To know him was to love him and often to be laughing at something he had just said. His humor and presence made lasting impressions on everyone he met.
Although Jaybird held many jobs over the years, it wasn't until he started working for Taylor Farms Water Hauling that he found his true passion. A hardworking and dedicated man, Jaybird proudly worked for the company for 20 years earning the respect of those he worked with and served in his community through his reliability and strong work ethic. When his health took an unexpected turn in 2023, he was left with no choice but to leave a job he so truly loved. Upon hearing of his death, his previous employer informed the family that he still has customers that call in to request Jaybird to do their delivery. This is testament to the lasting impact he made on the people he encountered.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Harold and Janet Runion, and his brother, Edward "Pete" Runion.
Jaybird is survived by his brothers, James "Peanut" Runion and wife Barbara, Thomas "Tommy" Runion, and Warren "Buck" Runion; his sister, Catherine "Cathy" Stanhope and husband Gary; two nieces and three nephews; and three great-nephews and two great-nieces.
Jaybird will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his kind heart and the love he had for his family. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
