Gary Leo Capriotti, 74, of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on September 27, 2021.

Born on September 27, 1947 in Bakerton, West Virginia to Mildred Carter Wilson and the late William Capriotti, Gary was a strong patriarch of his family, a man of faith, and lived a life of service to others. Gary was a loving and devoted husband of 51 years to Sharon Anne Capriotti, a proud father to Teresa Anne York (Richard), and Jason Todd Capriotti (Suzanne), Pop Pop to his grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew, Justin and Ryan, great-grandfather to Avery, and loving son to his mother, Mildred.

In addition to his father, he is predeceased by his brother, Dennis Capriotti.

Gary was a 1965 graduate of Harpers Ferry High School and a 1969 graduate of West Virginia University, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from the Library of Congress after 39 years of service, then continued serving his community working with the Shepherdstown Police Department for 4 years. In his free time, he acted as Treasurer of the Harpers Ferry Alumni Association and Treasurer of the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association and coached and officiated youth soccer.

Gary cherished his family and was a good friend to all. He avidly supported Christian charities, loved woodchopping, birdwatching and singing hymns at church. Gary will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, kind nature, boundless generosity, and fierce loyalty to his family, by whom he will be dearly missed and forever loved.

Friends are invited to share their memories of Gary with his family during visitation from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Eackles-Spencer and Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. Funeral and interment will be private.
