George Dewey
Heffner, Sr.
September 17, 1944 – December 17, 2022
George Dewey Heffner, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 17th, with his family by his side.
Dewey, affectionately known as "Butch" by his family, was born in Brunswick, Maryland on September 17, 1944. He was the son of the late Marie Sigler Pearrell and George Washington Heffner. Dewey graduated from Brunswick High School, and shortly thereafter joined the United States Navy, where he received two medals for his service during Vietnam.
Dewey was an entrepreneur throughout his life and was always dreaming up the next big thing. A few of his businesses over the years included Dewey's Home Furnishings, Frederick RV, Custom Caps and Tri State Truck Tops. His two most proud work accomplishments were helping his wife with their convenience store, Little Country Store and starting Butts Tubes with his son, which is now called Harpers Ferry Adventure Center.
Dewey's greatest love was his wife of 55 years. They met at a dance when they were just teenagers in high school. He said that when he met her he knew she was the one. They shared a love of dancing throughout their marriage and would spend most Saturday nights at one of the local dance halls. He also adored his two children and six grandchildren, who he said were the pride and joy of his life.
He will be remembered for his kindness to everyone. He never spoke a bad word about anyone and went above and beyond to help anyone in need. He had the biggest smile and an unforgettable laugh that was contagious. Simply put, to know him was to love him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Faye; his two children, JR (Holly) and Kim (Pete); his six beautiful grandchildren Katherine, Matthew, Hunter, Barrett, Nora and June; sisters Beverly, Bonnie and Molly; brothers Davey and Terry; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He had a special bond with his brother Davey and his wife, Betty and his long-time friend, Grover. He also adored his late step-dad, Baker Pearrell.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at Eackles-Spencer-Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Chaplain Preston Everhart officiating. A reception will follow on "the mountain" at Harpers Ferry Brewing, 37412 Adventure Center Lane, Purcellville, VA. Anyone whose life he touched is welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share your favorite stories of him with them to keep his spirit alive.
