Gladys Earline Baylor Garrett, 97, formerly of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away at the Bickford Assisted Living Facility in Midlothian, Virginia, on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Born October 25, 1926 in Penola, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John W. Baylor and Uzziah Lewis Baylor.

Gladys was a member of the Wainwright Baptist Church in Charles Town, WV.

Most of her life was dedicated to giving and helping people. As a teenager in Washington, DC she delivered medications to the elderly. During her life she dedicated herself unselfishly to the church, giving of her many talents from baking to organizing bus trips for education and entertainment. She dedicated herself to veterans and made many lasting friendships during her almost 50 years of employment at the Martinsburg VA Hospital. She was soft but stern when needed. She had a love for the outdoors, often going for long walks in the park and woods in the area. She loved people and people responded in kind. May she rest in peace, she has fulfilled her journey in life.

She is survived by her sons, Algin B. Garrett, MD and wife, Mary Cate of Midlothian, VA and Sago R. Garrett of Canton, MI; two grandsons, Jonathan Garrett and wife, Kyla and Geoffrey Garrett, and one great granddaughter, Lydia.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years,

Simuel James Garrett in 2008, one sister, Columbia Baylor and three brothers, Arthur, John and Elgin Baylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Rev.  Ed Hall officiating, Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, WV.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 6-8 pm.
