Obituary

Gloria Janet Walton Andrews was born on July 7.1941, in Omaha Nebraska, to Donald Munro Findlay and Lucille Veron Kramer. She was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling, VA. The youngest of three children, she was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Moore and her brother Donald Findlay.

Gloria married Terence John Andrews, who preceded her in death in 2003. They had five children, Terence P. Andrews of Leesburg, VA, William J. Andrews (Denise) of Winchester, VA, Robert B. Andrews of Linden, VA, Diana L. Floyd (Charlie) of Linden, VA and Daphne D. Andrews (Alexander) of Charles Town, WV.

She was a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and she was preceded in death by her grandson Zachary A. Reid in 2010.

Gloria was extraordinarily intelligent and had an unquenchable curiosity. She attended the University of Nebraska and later completed her degree at Northern Virginia Community College in engineering. She went on to build a long and respected career as an electrical engineer, spending her final 25 years at EIT in Sterling, VA.

A lifelong learner, Gloria loved Jeopardy! and other brain-game shows. She also had a deep affection for Sci-Fi and paranormal television- favorites included The Unknown, Skinwalker Ranch, Ghost Hunters, and many programs on the History Channel. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Gloria was also a passionate advocate for individuals with special needs. When the family moved to Loudoun County in the 1970's. programming for special -needs children-like her oldest son- was scarce. Gloria joined a small group of dedicated parents to push for meaningful support within the public school system. Their work paved the way for services that exist today in Loudoun County, including programs such as Echo and LARC.

Independent, strong-willed, and guided by a deep belief in equality, Gloria devoted her life to ensuring that everyone - regardless of ability- had access to opportunity. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the children she championed, and the family who loved her deeply.

" He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle against me; for there were many with me" Psalms 55:18
