Obituary

James Emory Cooper, II, 89, of Charles Town, WV passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Winchester Medical Center.

He was born October 15, 1921 in Tilghman Island, MD and was the son of the late Carroll Garvin and the late Edna Cooper Blades.

James was a member of the Summit Point United Methodist Church.

He was a combat veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army and participated in the Pacific Campaign. He received four purple hearts.

He was a graduate of the University of Baltimore, class of 1949, with a degree in business. He retired in 1983 from Ryder Co. as regional manager. He also was a volunteer at the Lewes Life-Saving Station in Lewes, DE.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joan Mason Cooper, at home; step-children, Julie Morgan of Sea Cliff, NY, Kimberly Mason of Glenside, PA, Karen Mason of Wyoming, OH, and James Mason of Charles Town, WV; eleven grandchildren, Nathaniel, Tucker, and Kathryn Morgan, Emma, David, and Edward Farrow, Ethan, Claire, Daisy, Evelyn, and Xylon Mason; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, by whom he will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Culler Cooper; sister, Harriet Fergeson; and brother, William McDonal.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 15, 2011, at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, US 340 at Halltown Road, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, WV, with Pastor John Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
