On Sunday, August 6, 2023, James F. Dougherty passed away peacefully at the VA Hospice in Martinsburg, WV, after a long battle with glioblastoma.

Born July 25, 1956, in Erie, PA, James entered the military right after high school. He served in the Navy for six years. A long-life learner, James often took classes online and in person. He enjoyed reading, fishing and camping. He also had a passion for creative endeavors, especially knot-making and photography.

James was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg, where he was very proud to be involved with the Knights of Columbus and volunteered his time and talents whenever needed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Cathy, at home; one daughter, Jennifer Dougherty, and one son, Nicholas Dougherty, two sisters, Carol Piccolo and Cathy Brown and husband, Hal, one brother, Steve Dougherty and wife, Marcia, several nieces, nephews and loving cousins, including a special cousin, Sharon.

In addition to his parents, William and Eileen Dougherty, he is preceded in death by his beloved son, Thomas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 18, 2023 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV with a Rosary to be held at 9:30 am. Inurnment will be held in St. Peters Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, WV.
