James Oliver Holmes, 91, of Bunker Hill, WV passed away peacefully Friday, May 15, 2026 at his residence.

Born July 18, 1934 in Broadford, Virginia, he was the son of the late Roy H. Holmes and Hallie Crowder Holmes.

Jim was a member of Daisy's Chapel, where he was a deacon. Jim was a logger and loved it. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many. 

He is survived by two daughters, Doris Bond and husband, Greg and Carolyn Payne and husband, Jerry, two sons, Dean Holmes and wife, Pat and Richie Holmes and wife, Denise, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Holmes, his daughter, Ann Holmes, four sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Pastors David Brown, Bill Wilson and Thomas "Huffy" Hoffmaster officiating. Interment will follow in Middleway Masonic Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 6-8 pm. 

Pallbearers will be Cody Holmes, Curtis Holmes, Jonathon Bradfield, Parker Phillips, Seth Stump and Mason Stump.
