Jerry Allan
Shewbridge, Sr.
July 28, 1938 – January 11, 2023
Jerry Allan Shewbridge, Sr., of Ranson, WV went to be with the Lord, on January 11, 2023.
He was born in Yarrowsburg (Knoxville), MD on July 28, 1938, and was the son of the late George Elmer Shewbridge and Emma Deaner Shewbridge.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Jerry served in the US Army 82 nd Airborne from 1957 -1959 as a Rifleman in the Weapons Infantry division, earning his parachutist badge.
He was 84 years old and lived his life to the fullest. He owned and operated Jerry's Auto Sales since 1978 until his "retirement" at age 62. For the past 22 years, he worked on cars and treasured his time with family. He began drag racing in 1964 and was a diehard Chevrolet man. In 1983, way before any electronics, he became the NHRA Division 1 Champion. He had a 454 ci big block Chevy Chevette drag car for that race named Country Bumpkin.
Jerry was full of life until January 2019 when his kidneys stopped working. He began dialysis and never fully recovered. He loved mowing his daughter's grass with his zero-turn mower. He loved the day at the drag strip with Ginny while Bodie and Kaz raced the cars.
He looked forward to his coffee every day and when he couldn't go get it, he'd say, "tell Mom to bring me a cup." He loved telling the stories of when Rick was little and would tell jokes at the ball field. He enjoyed Jheri (Baby Dumplin, as he called her) taking him to Harbor Freight. He still has a Monza drag car that is raced by his daughter and dear friend, Cliffy Peddicord and fabricated by his long-time friend, Gary Athey.
Words cannot describe this man because he was a true angel while on this earth. He knew no evil or harshness and would lend a hand or his shirt to anyone in need, even if he didn't have much to give at times. His favorite places will always be 75 &80 and Mason-Dixon Dragways.
He leaves behind his ex-wife and dear friend, Virginia M. Shewbridge; two sons, Jerry "Bodie" A. Shewbridge. Jr., and wife, Brenda of Middleway, WV and Richard "Rick" T. Shewbridge and wife, Mary of Kearneysville, WV; one daughter, Chastidy "Kaz" Shewbridge Link and husband, Kevin of Shenandoah Junction, WV; five grandchildren, Rachel McCulloch and husband, Wyatt, Daniel Shewbridge, Holly Watson, Stephen Boyd and wife, Danielle and Jheri LeAnn Liskey and fiance', Fred Drake; one great grandchild, Frederick "Freddy" Drake, IV; two sisters, Joan Shewbridge and Jean Deener, one brother, Brent Shewbridge and a great friend, Wayne "Mouse" Hough, who checked in on him regularly. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Lila aka Kitty and his beloved Grandpups, Kaylee, LilyBelle, and Scooby.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, three brothers, Dave, Jim and Monte Shewbridge and one sister, Joyce "Sally" Bradley.
