Joan Arthur Platten, 81, of Charles Town, West Virginia passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Willow Tree Healthcare Center.

Joan was born on January 4, 1940 in Louisville, KY to the late Fay Landrum McKinney and Mary Ruth Finley McKinney.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Charles Town Ward.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, James Frederick Platten of 57 and a half years; two daughters, Mary Alice Cook and husband Mark, and  Deborah Ann Platten; three sons, Jon R. Platten and wife, Leslie, Robert T. Platten, Frederick A. Platten; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Fay Ruth Bowden; and  one brother, William McKinney.

In addition to her parents Joan was preceded by one infant brother, John Frederick McKinney.

Joan attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah.  She retired as a Division Director with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Joan was a past president of the Shenandoah Garden Club and was an active volunteer at the Olde Opera House in Charles Town.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 343 Carriage Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV. Interment will follow in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at  Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
