John Truman
Himes, Jr.
July 17, 1929 – February 1, 2026
John Truman Himes, Jr., 96, left all pain and suffering behind on February 1, 2026, to go home with the Lord.
John was born at home in the Valley on July 17, 1929.
John loved working with his wife by his side on the farm. He raised Black Angus cattle and always had chickens and guineas. He was a Gentleman Farmer. He came home from his job, had supper and went straight to tend to the animals. He started working at Interwoven in Martinsburg, WV, as a machinist. From there he earned his certification as a tool and die maker and worked at American Optical in Frederick, MD. He then retired from VDO Yazaki in Winchester, VA, as a shop foreman.
John was a member of the Sandy Hook UMC and attended Ebenezer UMC in VA.
John and his wife, Cora were members of the Round House 8 in Brunswick, MD. John and Cora also loved to visit Gatlinburg, TN.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cora Mae (Armstrong) Himes, and parents, John Truman Himes, Sr., Annabelle (Hartman) Himes, and sister, Shirley (Himes) Dayhoff.
He is survived by son, John Truman Himes III and wife, Diane of Sharpsburg, MD; daughters, Mary Lou Dorsey of Knoxville, MD and Robin Denise Webber and husband, Keith of Knoxville, MD; grandchildren, John Truman Himes IV, Jason and Jeremy Dorsey, Jessica Wachter, Kyle Webber, Daniel and Bobby Shoemaker; nephew, Gene Dayhoff; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Noah, Taylor, Hunter, Parker, Cooper and Paige Dorsey, Hayleigh Wachter, Haley and Emily Himes and Michael Shoemaker.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 12:00 P.M., at Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD 21758, with Pastor Calvin Park officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
