John Duane Smith, 68, left this world on September 12, 2025, surrounded by his family at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

He was a simple kind of man. He loved spending time at the river, fishing and summer nights by a fire. There was rarely a dull moment in his presence. He left his mark on many of the houses he built in his career as a Master Carpenter. His greatest accomplishments were his 3 children, whom he loved dearly. He left a lasting impression on just about all that came across his path.

He is survived by his son, John Austin Smith, and twin daughters, Veronica Smith and Devena (Ross) Heavner; his brothers Kenny Smith, Steve Smith, and sister, Kim Fox as well.

He was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Kathryn Smith; his Father Stanley LiCalzi and his mother, June LiCalzi.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 4, 2025 at 11am, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.
