John Greorge Zimmerman, Jr., born September 5, 1939, passed away on July 14, 2026.

John grew up in Ohio and then was in the Army Ordinance for 3 years then went to gunsmithing school in Colorado. He became a master gunsmith for 50 years. John’s favorite guns were Harpers Ferry. He loved the guns so much that he came to Harpers Ferry, WV and opened his own gun shop. He’s been in business for 30 years.

He is a member of the Logan Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M. in Harpers Ferry, WV. He was also a member of the Civil War Round Table in Harpers Ferry, WV.

His favorite time of day was lunchtime when he went to the Ranson Senior Center and ate lunch with his friends.

John lived his life to the fullest at 87. John was still working on guns when he fell. He had a gun in the vice that he was still working on.

Larry Waters said, “I never met anyone like Mr. Zimmerman. He always said to me, “You are the son I never had”. I will never forget you, Mr. Zimmerman. I miss you so much! Thanks for being such a good friend. I love you, Mr. Z”.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Masonic Cemetery in Middleway, WV.
