Jose Antonio Puertas Gomez, 83, of Olney, Maryland passed away Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV.

Born December 6, 1938 in Carupano, Venezuela, he was the son of the late Antonio Puertas and Eva Gomez Puertas.

He was of Catholic faith.

He is a retired international correspondent with Agencee France Press. He was a wonderful father, loving husband and was loved by all who knew him.

Jose is survived by his wife of 55 years, Haydee'; one daughter, Patricia Rucker; five sons, Jose Gregorio Puertas, Jose Antonio Puertas, Jose Alejandro Puertas, Daniel Eduardo Puertas and Luis Enrique Puertas; two sisters, Eva Puertas and Maria Puertas; two brothers, Pascual Puertas and Julio Toledo; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Isidoro Puertas, Antonio Puertas and Gonzalo Puertas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 10:00am at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV, with Father Timothy Grassi as the Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Dave Galvin. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, WV.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 6, 2022 from 6-8pm at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with a Rosary and vigil to be held at 7:30 pm.
