Karen Frances (Welch) Stroup, age 76, of Kearneysville, WV passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026 at home surrounded by family. Karen was born November 15, 1949 to the late Edgar and Audrey Welch in Smoot, WV.
Karen is survived by her only child, Allison (Jonathan) Cadle-Adams and her cherished grandchildren, Avery, Asher, Cameron, Adalyn, Salina, and Sol. She is also survived by her nieces Robin Welch Mink and Melissa (Randy) Welch Phillips, her nephew Jeremy Scott (Jennifer) Welch, great nieces Jenna (Nick) Mendenhall and Samantha (Tom) West and great nephew Josh (Megan) Mink. Karen was grateful to have an extended family through her husband Paul. Surviving are his son Steve (Denyelle) Stroup, their children Taylor Stroup and Katie (Cody) Belt with son Memphis.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Stroup, her former husband, Bruce Cadle, her brother and sister-in-law, Norman (Janice) Welch, an infant sister Glenda, infant grandson Anderson, and numerous beloved family members.
Throughout West Virginia, Karen was recognized as an outstanding educator. Karen received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at Concord University and received her Masters Degree from Marshall University. She served as Principal at 6 different schools throughout her career and taught classes at Concord University, West Virginia University and at Shepherd University. She seamlessly blended her academic excellence, empowering children and students to pursue their dreams, while always being present to offer wisdom and encouragement.
Karen was a devoted Christian and lived her life as a reflection of her faith. She attended church regularly growing up in Greenbrier Co. She was a pianist and a Sunday school teacher. In her later years, she enjoyed singing in the choir and throughly enjoyed fellowship and friendship within her women's groups. Karen was a phenomenal cook and baker, a talented gardener, a lover of all animals and an avid shopper.
Karen's greatest joy was her family. She loved them deeply and wholeheartedly. She made loving and lasting friendships with many. Her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Hospice of the Panhandle for the excellent care she received and to so many friends and family for their sincere love and support.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 5:30 P.M., at Fellowship Bible Church, 160 Daniel Road, Shenandoah Junction, WV 25442, WV, with Pastor Van Marsceau officiating and a meal with the family to follow.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to service at the Church.
Inurnment will take place in her hometown of Smoot, WV in the Spring.
