Kenneth 'Ken" David Winklepleck, 73, of Summit Point, WV passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024 at his home, with his family, after a short but valiant fight with cancer and kidney disease.
He was born July 22, 1950 in Ft. Scott, KS and was the son of the late Fred and Juanita Winklepleck. He moved to the Washington, DC area in the 1960's with his parents and other family members. He graduated from DuVal High School in 1969 and was married to Maria Concepcion Baldwin in that same year. Ken and his family lived in the Greenbelt, Md area in Frederick County, MD for many years before moving to the home he built in Summit Point, WV in 1998.
He was employed by The Bartley Corporation of Silver Spring, MD as a concrete construction foreman and then a crane truck driver/operator until he retired. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the N- SSA (North-South Skirmish Association) since 1976. He was on the committee for the N-SSA Museum and helped them with many of their Civil War era displays.
He enjoyed shooting black powder firearms, but he became a self-made artilleryman who especially loved to shoot with his friends in the Dulany Troop, 6th Va Cavalry.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 and 1/2 years, Maria, two sons, Michael Alan, and Eric Todd and one granddaughter, Lily Grace, brother-in- law, Kevin Carpenter, niece, Briana and nephews, Matthew, Zachary and Elijah. He also leaves behind family in Kansas and Missouri, many dear and close friends in the N-SSA, coworkers and friends. Ken was a loving and supportive husband and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott and his sister, LeighAnn Carpenter.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for visitation two hour prior to the service.
