Kevin Richard
Birt
August 7, 1953 – March 6, 2026
Kevin Richard Birt of Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia, passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 72. Kevin was born on August 7, 1953, in Montague, Prince Edward Island, Canada, where he spent his early years before moving to Alpharetta, Georgia at the age of 16. He graduated from Milton High School and attended Lee University, building a foundation that would guide him throughout his life.
Kevin had a long and distinguished career in information technology, working for AT&T and related companies for 45 years. He began his work in IT before computers were widely prevalent, helping to shape and advance the field over decades. He was respected by colleagues for his expertise, vision and dedication.
Kevin will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the meaningful connections he built with those around him. He enjoyed working on cars, spending time in nature and watching sports—he even played hockey himself for many years. Kevin also loved reading, sharing deep conversations, enjoying Mexican food, and was known for his witty sense of humor, practical jokes, and a contagious laugh. Whenever he entered a room, it would light up with his presence. Kevin was selfless and giving to others, always putting others ahead of himself. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family and took great delight in his grandchildren.
Kevin was married to his beloved wife, Phyllis, for 51 years. The couple were high school sweethearts, a lifelong partnership built on love, faith and shared devotion.
Kevin was a man of great faith who committed his life to Christ at a young age. He was a great student of the Word, a prayer warrior and allowed his beliefs to influence all aspects of his life. He faithfully served as a deacon and elder at North Lanier Baptist Church and, most recently, was a member of Harvest Pointe Community Church, where he was active in men's ministry, mentoring and encouraging others in their faith.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Birt; his children, Derryck Birt (Robin), Jennifer Wood (Joseph), and Laurel Sousa (Chris); his cherished grandchildren, Camryn, Savannah, Meegan, Easton, Lincoln, Finley, Georgia, and Nora; brother, Jimmy Birt; and sister, Glenda Brown.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Birt and Reta Birt, and his siblings, Stewart Birt and Faith Birt Rodgers.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
Kevin will be remembered for his thoughtful nature, his love of conversation and the time he devoted to those he cared about most. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
