Obituary

Letitia Hastings Ellerbeck, 64, of Charles Town, died January 1 of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident December 25.

Born December 14, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of the late Ed Hastings and the late Dorothy Ballard.

She loved music and was an accomplished flutist while still in her teens. As a Quaker, she was very active in the civil rights movement. She graduated from Harvard in the 1970's. Her working life encompassed her many interests and passions, including nursing, counseling, astrology, and stained glass art. In recent years, her greatest joy was her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Annika Fager and Molly Fager (and husband Kris), all of Martinsburg; her sisters, Laurie Hillsberg, of Charles Town, Linda Martin, of San Mateo, California, and Mary Desch, of Orlando, Florida; an aunt, Jennie Luperini, of Sonoma, California; and her beloved grandchildren, Amber Fager, Zane Hornich and Lhiannon Rider.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica Ellerbeck, and a granddaughter, Sianna Hornich.

A celebration of her life was held at St. John's Episcopal Church, Harpers Ferry, on January 2, with the Rev. Georgia DuBose officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
