Obituary

Marshall Douglas Fraim, 93, of Frederick, MD, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at HeartFields of Frederick, surrounded by his loving family.

Born March 30, 1932, in Alva, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Leroy and Blanche Hobdy Fraim.

He was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church in Rockville, MD.

He left home at 18 to join the Woolworth's training program in Hendersonville, NC, to become a store manager. He was called to service during the draft and joined the United States Air Force. During basic training, on a weekend pass, he met the love of his life, Betty. As the story goes, he knew she was "the one," and before he deployed to Korea, they married. Doug received various awards during his service and was honorably discharged in 1959.

After a successful career in retail, sales, and church leadership, Doug followed his calling to become a United Methodist pastor. After attending Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., Doug was assigned to the Baltimore-Washington Conference and was pastor to many churches in the Harpers Ferry and Bolivar area. Together with his wife, Betty, they joyfully served his parishioners and were instrumental in bringing together the community. He was invited to serve long past the mandatory retirement age for pastors in the Baltimore-Washington Conference. After his retirement he maintained lasting relationships with the church community.

Doug was a dedicated member of several organizations, including Logan Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M. in Harpers Ferry, WV, the American Legion, Scottish Rite, and the Shriners.  Throughout his life, he maintained a strong and loving bond with his many nieces and nephews. Doug considered himself "just a good ole boy from Kentucky," and enjoyed many trips to see his family in Kentucky, as well as Tennessee, and Virginia.

He continued to be a strong person with a loving spirit, bringing joy to those around him with his singing, laughter and playful sense of humor.  Doug embodied the importance of faith, family and friends and touched the hearts of all he met.

He is survived by four daughters, Deborah Ann Fraim of Gulfport, FL; Karen Fraim Goss and husband, Earle of Boyds, MD; Sandra Jo Fraim of Inwood, WV; Teresa Fraim Sell and husband, John of Frederick, MD. He was deeply proud of his eight grandchildren, Douglas Goss and wife, Miranda; James Goss and wife, JoAnna; Meredith Sell and spouse, Mitchell Black; Julia Guimiot and husband, Henri; Amanda Sell; Ryan Stark; Emily Snell and husband, Dakota; and Brendan Stark. He enjoyed welcoming four great-grandchildren, Claire Olivia Goss, Grant Joseph Goss, Cooper Douglas Goss and Tate Marshall Snell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Fraim, one infant brother, Loran Eustis Fraim and three sisters, Sylvia Mae Burnette, Faye Gibson Wilcox and Carolyn Wagner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with the Reverend Dr. John R. Unger II officiating.

Interment will be at Fairview Lutheran Cemetery in Bolivar, WV.
