Melvin Edward Piper, 96, of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at home.

Born March 8, 1929, in Harpers Ferry, WV, he was the son of the late Garland and Georgia Hawk Piper.

Melvin was a former member of Chestnut Hill Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, David E. Piper and wife, Donna Mae of Chestnut Hill, Roger D. Piper and wife, Donna Jean of Uvilla; one daughter, Patricia A. Hardy of Chestnut Hill; six grandchildren, Angie (Joe), Dale (Rosanna), Kim, Brandon (Stephanie), Hannah, Sarah (Sean); ten great-grandchildren, Andrew, Nikki (Josh), Aaron (Kelly), Logan, Rebecca, Janelle (Matt), Joey David, Issy, Bryton, Weston and one on the way; eight great-great-grandchildren, Gabe, Thomas, McKenzie, Amelia, Evelyn, Hilda, Luna, Damian and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, his wife of 62 years Ida L. Piper; one daughter Linda M. Rollison; one son-in-law, Stephen L. Hardy; two brothers Charles H. Garrett and Paul D. Garrett; and two sisters, Myrtle V. Wilt and Rosetta M. Talton.

Services will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at Eackles- Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with Pastor Bill Rowley officiating. Interment will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
