Our Beloved Orville Augusta Thompson, Jr. “Muggs”, 90, of Charles Town, WV, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Born at home on December 26, 1935, in Weaverton, MD. He was the son of the late Orville A. Thompson and Dorothy K. Holler Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth A. “Pat” Ott Thompson; daughter, Pamela K. Thompson Coletta; and son, Kevin O. Thompson (Becky); grandchildren, April R. Paavola (Nicholas), Christopher M. Coletta (Erin), Jennifer M. Chase (Zach), Emily E. Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Kaytlyn C. Coletta, Wyatt J. Coletta, Avery K. Coletta and soon-to-arrive, Sophia M. Chase, who will continue to honor his memory and carry his love in their hearts.
Also surviving are his brother, David T. Thompson; sisters-in-law, Mary K. “Kay” Payne, Eleanor L. “Polly” Glesner, Linda Ott and Patricia Walker, and many other extended family members and cherished friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Donna F. Thompson; sister, Shelby Jean Thompson Spielman; in-laws, Blanche E. Ott and Elmer A. Ott and many other extended family.
Orville graduated in 1953 from Brunswick High School. He went to work for Capico Printing Ink Co/Flint in Washington, D.C., for 47 years, United Whole Salers in Washington, D.C. and concluded his career with 12 years with Jefferson County Public Schools. Over his career, he made friends and continued many of those loving relationships throughout his life until his passing. He cherished those relationships and all the love that they shared.
Orville enjoyed many activities, growing gourds for bird houses, gardening, flowers, fishing, crabbing, the beach, morel mushroom hunting, horse racing, listening to music and was a volunteer and supporter of the Special Olympics.
Orville was a Legion member of the Charles Town Moose Lodge #948, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1136, Brunswick, MD, American Legion Post 10, Boonsboro, MD, life time member of Knights of Pythias, Blue Ridge Lodge 131.
Though deeply missed, Orville’s legacy of love, compassion and strength will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 10:00 A.M., at St. James Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV, with Father Timothy Grassi as Celebrant, assisted by Deacon Bill Bronzi.
Immediately afterward, at noon, Protestant funeral service will be held at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD 21758, with Pastor Calvin Park officiating.
Interment will follow in the Brownsville Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a Rosary and vigil at 6:30 P.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers ferry, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, or Brownsville Church of the Brethren.
