On Monday, March 23, Rachel Anne (Harris) Tansill age 82 of Charles Town, WV passed away peacefully at Berkeley Medical Center.

Born December 8, 1943 to her late parents Walter and Violet Harris. She grew up in Gap Mills, West Virginia.

Rachel taught business education for 40 years in Jefferson County. Her first 5 years at Harper's Ferry High School and then 35 years at Jefferson High School. She then worked 6 years as director and preschool teacher at Noah's Ark Child Development Center. Rachel was a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church in which she was a past member of the Geneva Bell Ringers and assisted with nursery and vacation Bible school. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star and the Harper's Ferry Alumni Association.

She met her husband of 51 years, Robert Tansill, on a blind date and won his heart by fixing two steak dinners and changing his tire in the rain. They married December 21, 1974 and still reside in one of the first homes to be built in the second section of Tuscawilla Hills.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her best friend and daughter, Emily Tansill-Rutherford. her bonus daughter's Debbie Henshaw and Susie Moreland. Her grandson, Matthew (Crystal) Fowler, bonus grandsons, Dylan Rutherford and Daniel Shortt. Former son in laws Mike Fowler and Jamie Rutherford. Her granddaughters Sara (Tanner) Elliott and Samantha Rutherford. Her bonus granddaughter Jadelyn Reed. Her great-grandsons Mason, Rhyker, and Morgan. Her sister, Jane Ford and brother David (Cathey) Harris. Her Brother-in-law Richard Tansill and Joseph Harris. As well as many nieces and nephews .

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Lena and Pauline Harris, sister-in-law Bonnie Tansill, bonus sisters Margaret Jamison, Lenora Few, Margaret Harris, brothers Rodney and Ernest Harris, and niece Robin Harris.

Rachel was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She made a difference in the lives of everyone she met.

Services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:00 A.M., at Charles Town Presbyterian Church, 220 E. Washington Street, Charles Town, WV, with Reverend John Bethard officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 29, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
