Richard Wayne Adams, 61 passed away Thursday June 10, 2021at his residence.
He was born in Hartford, CT to the late David and Judith (Morse) Adams and was a 1978 graduate of Southwick High School (MA).
Richard spent his youth growing up in West Granville, MA with his brother (David) and sisters (Deborah and Susan) and the neighborhood of Beech Hill Road. A hard worker since his early years there was always work needing done on the family property which included dogs, horses, chickens and gardens. At Southwick High he was a talented cross country runner, earning many awards including a first place finish at the Western Massachusetts Championships in 1977. Richard accredited his success to training on the Granville hills and dirt roads.
After high school Richard enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, later enlisting full time in the Air Force completing Basic Training and specializing in Flight Mechanics as a jet mechanic. Upon leaving the Air Force Richard settled in Ohio working as a machinist and then continuing his education in trade school earning his Heating and Cooling Certificate. Richard worked for various Heating and Cooling Companies for the last 15 years in the Maryland, Ohio and DC suburbs.
Richard married Dorothea Stocking Adams in 1994 and they settled in Kearneysville, West Virginia.
Coming full circle he was working hard, raising horses, chickens, dogs and growing a garden on their family property. Generous with his time and always ready to lend a helping hand Richard was the first to help out anyone in need putting in hay, building a barn, providing Heating and Cooling advice or cooking for a crowd.
In addition Richard had a love for traveling which he enjoyed with his wife Dotty, traveling to the Bahamas, France, and Europe. In addition to returning to his childhood home and neighborhood to visit Family and friends as often as he could.
Richard leaves his beloved wife Dotty and devoted German Shepard. He is survived by his wife Dorothea (Stocking) Adams, a brother David K. Adams Jr. of Springfield, MA , sister Deborah (Adams) Boulanger of West Granville, MA, sister Susan (Adams) Beckman of Blandford, MA and a Nephew Robert Boulanger of West Granville, MA. Richard is predeceased by his parents David and Judith (Morse) Adams.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 26, 2021 at 11:00 am at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home,256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Rev. Stephen Stahley officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the local animal shelter.
