Richard Halvey Sanderson, Jr., 80, of Kearneysville, WV passed away October 23, 2021 at his residence.

Born November 28, 1940 in Vienna, VA, he was the son of the late Richard Halvey Sanderson, Sr. and Virginia Mikesell Sanderson.

He was retired from the DC Fire Department with over 20 years of service and was also  a horse trainer at Charles Town Race Track for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen Sanderson of Ranson, WV;  two sons, Thomas and Ralph Sanderson, one step-daughter, Renae Sheppard, six step-sons, Roy Sheppard, Delbert Sheppard, Daniel Sheppard, Jason Sheppard, Gary Murray and Ricardo Kanhai, one sister, Laura Ziegler and one brother, Russell Sanderson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph 'Mike" Sanderson.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV.
