Robert (Bob) Frederick Tansill age 82 of Tuscawilla Hills, Charles Town, WV passed away peacefully at home on June 25, 2026. He was born April 11, 1944 to his late parents Roy and Marion Tansill in Rochester, NY and grew up in Alexandria, VA.
Bob graduated from University of Virginia and Bridgewater College. He was a social studies teacher and an assistant coach after graduating college in Alexandria, VA and then he became assistant principal at Clarke County High School for 25 years until he retired from education. He went on to hold various jobs at Charles Town Race Track, CVS, Shepherd University and most recently he was a school crossing guard for the Charles Town Police Department up until his illness.
Bob was a member of the Charles Town Presbyterian Church in which he was a deacon. He was a lifetime resident and past officer of the Tuscawilla Hills HOA. When he worked in the school system he was known as
*Mr. T” and as *Mr. Bob” when he was working as a school crossing guard. He loved waving to all the school children and bus drivers.
Bob loved to tell stories about his past such as coaching alongside the late Coach Yost and coaching several of the TC Williams football players that were featured in
the movie “Remember The Titans”, he thwarted a bomb attack on the White House by a student, telling stories of how students would hear him coming in the halls of the school by the keys jingling and thought they were in trouble, and he loved giving life lessons.
Bob loved his country and even though he wasn't a veteran he supported all levels of the military especially the Navy due to his father serving. He loved fishing and was a dedicated fan of UVA, Shepherd University Rams, Redskins, Navy, and the Baltimore Orioles in which he loved attending or watching games with family and friends. He also loved the Beach Boys, telling corny jokes and sharing life lessons.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Tansill, grandson, Matthew (Crystal) Fowler, bonus grandsons, Dylan Rutherford and Daniel Shortt, granddaughters Sara (Tanner) Elliott and Samantha Rutherford, bonus granddaughter Jadelyn Reed, great grandsons Mason, Rhyker, and Morgan, brother and best friend, Richard Tansill and significant other Ann Keller. Also hre is survived by his cousins, friends, and former coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years on March 23, 2026, Rachel A. (Harris) Tansill, and sister-in-law Bonnie Tansill.
A special thank you to the caregivers who provided care for Bob the last several months, all the caregivers at Guiding Hands especially Carol, Jasmine, and Savanna, and all the staff from Hospice especially nurses James and Elizabeth and aides Karen and Summer.
Services will be held on July 2, 2026, at 12:00 P.M., at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers ferry, WV, with the Reverend John Bethard officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
