Obituary

Our beloved Ronnie Armstrong, Jr., of Reston, VA, was born on October 13, 1965 to Shirley and Ronnie Armstrong, Sr. in Washington, D.C. He peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Ranson, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Armstrong; brother, Bennie R. Sampson, Jr. and step-daughter Traysha Dodson.

Ronnie attended elementary school in Washington, D.C. In 1977, his family moved to Reston, VA where he attended Langston Hughes Middle School and South Lakes High School. While at South Lakes, Ronnie played the drums for the South Lakes Marching band. He received his high school diploma in 1984.

Upon receiving his diploma, Ronnie enlisted in the United States Navy. His first assignment was Aviation Ordinanceman in Toyka, Japan from 1985 -1986. In 1986, he transfered to Miramar,CA where he served as an F-14 System Aircraft Organizational Maintenance Technician until 1989. In 1989, he served out his career in the Naval Reserve and received an Honorable Discharge in 1997. While serving in the Navy, Ronnie received 2 Sea Service Ribbons, 2 Armed Force Expectationary Medals, a Meritorious Unit Commendation Battle "E" Ribbon and a Joint Meritorious Unit Citation.

His love for music lead him to join Perfection, a DC based Go Go band. While with the band he enjoyed touring and playing at various venues throughout the DMV area.

While at Langston Hughes Middle School, Ronnie met Tracy Dodson. They reunited and fell in love in 1997. Ronnie and Tracy were joined in Holy Matrimony in 1999. Their union was blessed with the birth of Kayla Shemisa Armstrong in 2000.

Ronnie leaves to cherish his memory, father Ronnie Armstrong, Sr.; beloved wife; Tracy Armstrong; daughter, Kayla Armstrong; son, Antonio Dodson; grandson, Kamari Price; Brother, Gary Sampson (Debra); Sisters, Cassandra Sampson, and Renee Ross; nieces, Kiymone Sampson, Kesha Sampson, Markeshia Marks, and Katrina Johnson; nephew, Da'Juan Grove and a host of relatives and friends.
