Stanley William
Dunn
June 19, 1940 – January 6, 2026
Stanley William Dunn, Jr. died on the 6th of January 2026 at the age of 85. A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, he was born on the 19th of June 1940 in Shenandoah Junction to Gladys Virginia (Liskey) and Stanley W. Dunn, Sr.
Upon graduating from high school, Stanley's father encouraged him to attend college, but instead he pursued his lifelong passion of farming. With a family loan, he established the Dolly Varden dairy farm near Ranson which gained national recognition for high quality purebred Holsteins, and he became a pioneer in the embryo transfer industry. In 1977 he purchased Eastwood farm near Rippon which became the family home and headquarters for his beef herd after he retired from dairy farming in 1998. A cowboy at heart, Stanley enjoyed team penning and speculating on racehorses. He was also a faithful member of the Berryville Presbyterian Church.
A 1958 graduate of Charles Town High School, Stanley served as the president of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and was a charter member of the school's National Honor Society. In 1961, he was named WV's FFA Star Farmer of the Year. He later served as the president of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau and the tri-county Dairy Heard Improvement Association. He and his wife, Kitty, were named the Maryland-Virginia Milk Association's Farm Family of the Year, and he was named Farmer of the Year for the Pennsylvania Farmer Magazine. He served on the Sire Power board of directors and on several other agricultural committees.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Katherine "Kitty" Blue Dunn; two daughters: Ann Katherine Smith (Michael) and Ginny Dunn of Rippon; a son: Victor "Vic" Dunn (Andrew Damon) of Ashburn, VA; three granddaughters: Kylie Smith Whitaker (Dalton) of Myerstown, Sarah Dunn of Arlington, and Sophie Dunn of Athens, GA; one great-granddaughter: Presley Blue Whitaker; three sisters: Dixie Dunn Ruby of Hagerstown, Rebecca Jean Alvarez and Mariland Dunn Lee of Kearneysville; three brothers: Keenan, Maxwell and Terry Dunn of Jefferson County; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
