Treva St. John Blackford, 81, of Kearneysville, WV, passed away on January 27th, 2025, at The Hospice of the Panhandle, Kearneysville, WV.
She was born June 2, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio and was the daughter of Frances Lookingbill. She was married on July 24, 1960, to John A. Blackford Sr. of Bardane, WV for 47 years.
Treva was a book binder with Holladay-Tyler Printing and then moved to WV with her husband John to establish a horse farm. She was a horse owner and breeder for many years and was a member of the HBPA and WVTBA. She turned her love of sewing toward making Steiff teddy bears, and many other animals, establishing Brown Shop Bears with loyal teddy bear aficionados across the world. As a Teddy Bear Artisan, she participated in local shows including the Mountain Heritage Arts & Crafts Festivals. Besides horses, John and Treva raised many rescue pet dogs and cats, especially from Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson Co. and the Berkely County Humane Society.
She is survived by her two sons, Jack Blackford Jr. and wife, Toni of Kearneysville and Brett Blackford and wife, Dixie of Kearneysville; brothers Tommy and Benny Mauk and spouses; grandchildren Sara and husband Sheldon Cole and children Shelby and River Cole; Tara and husband Brian Bowman and child Koston Bowman; Brettney Blackford and son Jensen Blackford; Danielle Blackford and Fiancé Charles Johnson Jr. and daughters Kenleigh Johnson and Aaliyah Johnson; and step-grandchildren Antonio and Laura Roque, Adam and Heather Roque, Sara and Corden Stone, Ana and Jamie Springer, Rebecca and Chris Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, one son, Douglas Andrew Blackford, and one brother, Joeseph Mauk.
