A Life of Service, Dedication, and Love
William Russell Lutman (Bill), a native of Brunswick, Maryland, and longtime resident of Charles Town, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He died the day prior to his 71st birthday and shortly after celebrating 46 years of marriage with his wife, Margaret.
The son of William David Lutman and Dorothy Lutman (Baker) of Lovettsville, Virginia, William lived with deep devotion to his family, faithful service to his country, and pride in his work.
Bill proudly served in the United States Navy as a member of the deck crew aboard the USS Forrestal. He later spent more than 35 years in facilities and building maintenance at the National Institutes of Health and Fort Detrick, helping ensure that laboratories and testing facilities operated reliably in support of infectious disease research.
Bill enjoyed woodworking, home improvement projects, Mustang cars, traveling, hiking, and sharing adventures with Margaret. He was especially respected for his relentless hard work and steadfast commitment to seeing every project or job through to completion with exceptional attention to detail. His family and friends will remember his capable hands, adventurous spirit, dependable nature, and generous love.
William is survived by Margaret Lutman (Bredlow), his wife of 46 years; their son, David Lutman, and his wife, Annette; their daughter, Karen Moreno, and her husband, Jonathan; their grandchildren, Cecilia, Jace, Joelene, Aiden, Lorelei, Jasper, and Eleanor; his sisters, Susan Whelan and Cathi George; and his brother, Alfred “Chip” Michael.
William leaves a lasting example of service—to his country, his work, and, most importantly, his family. He exemplified what a husband and father should be, always working to provide for his family and meticulously maintaining anything and everything for his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Friday, November 13, 2026, at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV, with Chaplain Wayne Clark Officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 6:00 P.M. to 8 :00 P.M., at the funeral home.
