Obituary

William "Willie" Gonzalez, Jr., aka Tito, passed away peacefully at the age of 79 at his home in Charles Town, WV on October 25, 2025.

Born February 25, 1946 in Harlem, NYC, he was the son of the late William, Sr.  and Matilda Gonzalez. He and five of his siblings were raised in Bronx, NYC. William picked up his first job at the age of nine years, to help support his family, after his father's death.

Willie attended Harpers Ferry Job Corps as a student of the first class of 1966, where he obtained a trade for Brick Masonry, and also where he met the love of his life, Charlene, to whom he was married for 57 years. He was a father of four beautiful children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. There was nothing that could take his pride away from the legacy he created. He spoke highly of his wife, all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the words of Willie, I'm proud of you, "Pumpkin!", followed with a warm smile. He also reminded us often "Don't worry about it, "Pumpkin". Willie was willing to help in anyway he could.

Willie was a faithful member of Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee, usher and sang in the men's choir and gospel choir. Willie used his craft of masonry to build the brick marquee that stands in front of the church today. He worked with his father-in-law laying bricks. He also worked at Powhatan, the Paper Mill and the Racetrack. He retired from General Motors after dedicating 25 years of hard work.

He will be remembered for his playful personality, hard  working spirit and deep love for his family. Willie brought joy to every one he met, he knew no stranger. He was a strong believer in higher education. Willie was a lifelong and loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was raised Catholic and later embraced Methodism through marriage, living his faith through kindness and love. The absence of his presence will be deeply felt.

William leaves to cherish unforgettable memories, his wife of 57 years, Charlene Gonzalez, two sons, Pedro Gonzalez (Tammy), Elnasto Gonzalez (Niki) and one daughter, Kia Gonzalez, six grandchildren, Mario, Pria, Kianna, Jacquez, Kiarra, and Amaya, three great grandchildren, Kizyah, Shylynn and Kiari, on sister, Linda Perez, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Jacque Gonzalez, grandson, Ahmad Gonzalez, two brothers, Rudy Gonzalez and Felix Valentine, two sisters, Jenni Gonzalez (his twin) and Miriam Gonzalez, his parents-in-law, Charles and Genevieve Baylor and one sister-in-law, Janet Baylor.
